Surprisingly good, truly an old school vampire film which I have seen in a while. I wish there were more films like this around as they would save the reputation of vampires (Twilight nearly killed it forever). The film is a great piece of storytelling, which works well focusing on a classic hunter of the scourge which is vampires. Strangely it’s what I would like to see a bit more of in the walking dead here’s hoping for season 3. It’s a well-crafted atmospheric apocalyptic vision.

This film is a bit of a weird one, as it is supposed to be a comedy but ends up being mainly a drama. So in that respect it’s a hard one to review, so I will class this as a drama with a romance twist. But as for the comedy, it’s not funny and don’t expect much Steve Carell magic. The relationship between Penny and Dodge though is quite nice so it’s not a total right off.

Real Steel (2011) Review
Posted: April 30, 2012 in Action, Sci-FiTags: Action, Battleships, Boxing, boxing match, Combat, Competition, Despot Future, entertainment, Games, Hugh Jackman, Review, Robots, rock em sock em robots, science fiction plot, stunning visuals
Just watched this film at the weekend and thought it was well good to ok nothing special, nothing even memorable but it wasn’t bad. It was basically Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots turned into a movie, but unlike the battleship being converted to a film they didn’t have fun with it, but instead decided to go more serious with a bit of a gritty back story and a bad father son dynamic. A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Tim’s Film Reviews: wait till it comes out on TV.
