Contagion (2011) Review
Just watched this film at the weekend and thought it was actually good, it presents a scenario which is very plausible and presents it in a very realistic manner so it does shock you how out of control things could get if an outbreak really got a foot hold. Contagion follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart. Tim’s Film Reviews Recommended.
The Film does have some flaws in that it doesn’t really give you a lot of time to get attached to the characters because I certainly didn’t care if they lived or died. But the way it has the virus spread across the world definitely has a creepy feel and more close to reality than I think we would like. The film starts of very normal just seeing various members of the film doing whatever they do and the only sign of the virus is found by a very pushy and ignored journalist a little cliché, but it’s realistic because we get warnings of new deadly virus’s every year and normally turn out to nothing.
The film seems more like a documentary about a possible virus outbreak scenario but not a great cinema experience and I certainly wouldn’t say it was anything ground breaking. This kind of film has been done before with similar results a good watch if you find this kind of documentary style film but not if you are looking for action or thrills or even dramatically significant scenes because they don’t last long in this film. The characters are well performed by the cast which was needed for the scenes to seem more realistic.
Must Watch Trailer:
My favourite review “One of the scariest films of the year – and the best advert for hand sanitizer you will ever see.” Richard Edwards. This made me laugh because every five minutes you see people pouring it on their hands or buying a shelves’ worth at a supermarket and I did get the urge to use some when watching, warning might make you a little paranoid! Actually whilst I am writing this I have some hand sanitizer on my desk. Hmm, might just use some.
I will be releasing more reviews and more recent films I have seen in Cinema.
