Star Trek Into Darkness (Teaser/Trailer #1) Review

Man of Steel, Pacific Rim, Iron Man 3 and Star Trek into Darkness are my picks for best films for 2013. Oh my god! Nerding out! The reason I have two trailers today is that I was going to just review the teaser and then the first full trailer came out whilst writing so I thought I’d include it. I love them both but I personally prefer the teaser because something about the full one reminded me too much of the Man of Steel trailer, seriously if you compare them they start almost exactly alike. Either way it looks fantastic and the good thing about sequels is that they don’t have to tell an origin story so we can get straight to the good stuff involving the pretty kick ass Benedict Cumberbatch. I don’t want to know what his character is and if anybody knows keep it too yourself! Now check out the trailers and my grade for them.

3. That’s a damn good scream

Star Trek Into Darkness - That's a Good Scream

Normally you don’t see the person screaming in a trailer, its just general person in the background screaming because of the horror (the horror I say). But in this they get this fantastic shot of Kirk’s love interest getting a real scare and you feel it big time.

2. Kirk is confused or Horrified

Star Trek Into Darkness - Kirk is Confused or Horrified

The reason this comes in second is because he is a little bruised and beaten but i honestly cant tell what that reaction on his face is, its either the fear of God or something baffling has happened. I like not knowing, surprise me Mr. Abrams.

1. That’s a Klingon Fighting Benedict Cumberbatch

Star Trek Into Darkness - Klingon Fighting Benedict Cumberbatch

If you’re a full blown nerd like myself you will notice that the character on the left is holding a Bat’leth, this is traditionally a Klingon weapon. Then I was sure when I saw a picture of what the klingon’s will look like in the new film, and well the helmet he is wearing is the same so there we have it, Klingons! What I love about this scene is that Cumberbatch’s character is kicking their ass, so he must be something powerful because Klingon’s aren’t weak.

Score: B+

3. Weird Alien Forest

Star Trek Into Darkness - Weird Alien Forest

Looks beautiful, can’t wait to see this in IMAX. The film needs some really out there visuals and an alien forest will do nicely. Don’t get me wrong the rest will amazing and I have no doubt but I like a good mix. Colourful alien forests counter balance the whole dark epic battles I am guessing will populate the rest of the film.

2. What are those Stasis Chambers?

Star Trek Into Darkness - What are those Stasis Chambers

Yes this another image I don’t quite get, got some theories though. One, they might be some government experiment that spawned Cumberbatch’s character (Khan style). Two, maybe they aren’t human containers but weapons of mass destruction (but I think I see a face). And three, possibly an evacuation group being prepped for take off because of some the main villain is up to.

1. Either a Drone or Klingon Ship

Star Trek Into Darkness - Either a Drone or Klingon Ship

I don’t know what that is but I like it! Looks cool and it could be anything, first guess a remote controlled drone of the main villain. Second guess though is that this is some ultra new take on the famous Klingon battle cruiser ‘Bird of Prey’. Looks a little small but might be some kind of fighter jet made by the Klingon’s.

Well that’s my views. Now what do you think about this newest trailer? Also what do think about me doing trailer reviews?

I’ve seen the Star Trek trailer twice and get all warped out of shape wondering why this guy is so ticked he bombs the Starfleet HQ. Is this a young Khan?

One thing I live doing is heckling trailers. Filling in and changing dialog where I see it as dumb or bad acting or story from the get go. Its as much a part of the cinema experience as sharing the popcorn down the line with friends
