Oblivion (Trailer #1) Review

This to me actually looks pretty interesting and I really would like to see this film after watching the trailer. Not a huge fan of Cruises but when it comes to Sci-Fi he does seem to pick the good stuff (Minority Report, War of the Worlds). What I really like about the trailer is that I get a vague understanding from the trailer but am still pretty lost when it comes to what is actually going to go down in this film. The thing that stands out to me is the pretty wow set of visuals, I mean there very few shots that don’t look amazingly realistic when they must be done with CGI. Whilst we are on the visuals this film is being directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Lagacy) who clearly loves him some shiny plastic toys, however in his defense it looks pretty damn good in this film, even the gun being plastic doesn’t bother me. The film is based on a graphic novel I have not read but may after seeing the trailer, the film also boasts some big stars mainly Cruise and Freeman who is sporting some pretty cool future goggles. I will have the Trailer, My Score, Plot, my top five scenes and Poster below, so please enjoy.

Oblivion - Banner

My Score: A

Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living in and patrolling the skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues an attractive female stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything.

Top 3 Scenes

3. Dead City

Oblivion - Dead City

Our cities have fallen and nature has retaken what was once hers. Cool right? The shot is fantastic and the visuals look flawless. I love the ship and the landscape is pretty haunting when you think about what must have happened for this to be an eventuality. As it turned out it was an alien attack, I think.

2. 50’s Sci-Fi With Lots of Shiny

Oblivion - 50's Sci-Fi With Lots of Shiny

This shot could not look more 50’s Sci-Fi. The round shapes and near perfect sleekness of all the designs. Personally I really like it and tron director at very least knows how to make really sleek designs. There’s plenty in this trailer and I think the drop down in through the clouds is really cool.

1. This Is About The Point Were I Lost Track

Oblivion - This Is About The Point Were I Lost Track

At this point I have lost my understanding of the plot, you’d think this would annoy me but actually doesn’t, I think not understanding what on earth is going on is going to play to this films strengths because there is no chance of the trailer spoiling the film for us. This whole scene looks pretty good and clearly shows some shifty control over those droids.

Oblivion - Poster

Well that’s my views. Now what do you think about this newest trailer?

I’ve seen the trailer a few times and like others the sequences could be out of order but it really looks good. Shades of Predator with a futuristic Top Gun. Seeing Cruise shirtless doesn’t hurt 🙂

This one and After Earth seem to deal with a similar theme but I gave this one more of an edge as I quite like Cruise in this kind of roles and there’s Morgan Freeman too! 🙂
