Riddick (Trailer #1) Review

Well here it is the first full trailer to the final film in the Riddick trilogy. I loved the first film, it had a unique feel to it and was so simple it’s hard not enjoy the ride. Then the follow up Chronicles of Riddick which was so far in the opposite direction even I had trouble keeping track of the Sci-Fi/Fantasy elements at play. Now watching this trailer I obviously feel it taking more influence from the first film, stranded on a desert planet, bounty hunters, the nasty monsters come out at night, R RATING! Love it all and I think it will be at the very least fun. Also got some interesting casting going on which I will talk about later, but on that note where the hell Karl Urban? Honestly put him in the trailer! The action looks good, the monsters look scary and Riddick’s eyes are glowing so let’s get this review started! Comment and like at the end please.

My Score: B+

Release date: 6th September 2013

Plot:

Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.

Top 10 Scenes

10. Riddick’s Back!

riddick-Riddick’s-Back

What a brilliant opening to a trailer. As the Vulture thing descends to land and feed on a fresh corpse Riddick grabs its neck. Love it! It’s in keeping with the character and the planet definitely resembles the first film.

9. Where’d The Dog Come From?

riddick-Where’d-The-Dog-Come-From

Just a little random, but a dog appears with him out of nowhere. Granted it’s an alien dog thing but I thought it was very strange since it doesn’t appear again. Is it just a random animal that walks next to him in that scene (that would be neat) or just not explained in the trailer?

8. Dragged Into Darkness

riddick-Dragged-Into-Darkness

Any excuse at the minute to say into darkness mwahahaha. Anyway the scene is great as the shots just go from a group of hunters to being the hunted.

7. Hey Look It’s Drax And Starbuck

riddick-Hey-Look-It’s-Drax-And-Starbuck

Yeah…let’s cut him loose. Love it, hell is descending upon them and they have the common sense to release Riddick. The actors we have here, on the left will be Drax in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy and on the right we have Starbuck from the Battlestar Galactica.

6. Fighting For The High Ground

riddick-Fighting-For-The-High-Ground

Why he is in that position is beyond me but it looks very cool and in the scene you get a close up of Riddick full on throwing a spear into the head of a big beasty, like in the next image.

5. Slice Him Down The Middle

riddick-Slice-Him-Down-The-Middle

Gut that freaky monster! Make it two monsters.

4. Look At That Beasty

riddick-Look-At-That-Beasty

Look at the detail on that badass beasty, looking pretty good so far with a small budget. You don’t need big budgets! I keep saying people.

3. Our New Ripley?

riddick-Our-New-Ripley

That picture looks so kick ass! It really reminds me of Ripley in that Aliens scene taking on the alien. I hope she does really well because she looks right and some more strong female characters never hurts in the Sci-Fi genre.

2. I am Not Taking A Bath With Them

riddick-I am-Not-Taking-A-Bath-With-Them

What a brilliant shot to show both the threat of moment/ monsters in general and the sheer number of them. It very similar to the number of nasty’s in first film.

1. Fight Back To Back

riddick-Fight-Back-To-Back

This is easily the best shot, back to back fighting with the enemy surrounding you, going to predict it to my favourite scene of the film. On a more focused note we get a good look at the creatures and well they can only be described as a hybrid between a Velociraptor and a scorpion, what a terrifying combo.

New Poster

Well that’s my views. Now what do you think about this newest trailer?

I love how you grab the stills and dissect them, Tim. Well done!

Thought the same thing about the alien dog. LOL

Hope the film doesn’t disappoint but I have low expectations

Frak me its Starbuck, not like I really needed another reason to want to check this one out.

I really enjoyed Pitch Black. In fact, I even liked Chronicles (though Pitch Black was better). And while I enjoyed Chronicles well enough, you can tell with this one they have moved back towards Pitch Black in tone and everything and I feel that’s a good thing. I’ll be looking forward to checking this one out.

Ever since I saw PB, I have remained firm in my claim that Vin Diesel’s Riddick is the strongest anti-hero of this generation. I was incredibly disappointed by the letdown that was Chronicles, although I was just as surprisingly floored by the fantastic videogame adaptations.

I believe that this universe and its protagonist hold a lot of promise if only the right approach is taken. Given how the trailer seems to strongly hint at toning down the story’s scale and channeling the horror/survival elements from the original, I think that Riddick has a decent chance to be a surprise hit this fall. Diesel can certainly play the part flawlessly — he just needs a story worthy of Richard B. Riddick’s character.

I never watched any of the Riddick movies though I might check the one w/ Judi Dench in it! Hey I love Starbuck from BSG, surprised she doesn’t get more roles after that show.

Well the first ones the best but just watch both because they are very unique films. Hope you enjoy them 😀

Why doesn’t she get work? This is the first thing since I have seen her in. Weird!

Looks more like the first one than the second one – which would be an awesome surprise. Not that the second one was bad, but I loved the smaller feel of the first movie. Nice review.

Worried the trailer gave a little too much away. I would have liked to not know what the monsters looked like until the actual movie.

Well we don’t really know what happens and everything that does happen is too quick to show any full scenes, so I think we’ll be safe 😀

In what world do you think they wouldn’t show the monsters? They want people to see the film so their not going to miss out the biggest draw 😀

Definitely gives me vibes of the first movie, which isn’t a bad thing. Thought like you, I’m curious about the absence of Karl Urban. Teaser images have shown that they’re incorporating the ending of Chronicles in some fashion at least, but based on this trailer, it looks like it may well get the plug pulled on it early on, similar to what Resident Evil 4 did with the Alice clone army. Hope that’s not the case here, though, as I feel that’d be a wasted opportunity to further try out some new things, which is what I liked so much about the second one, but I dunno, we’ll see…

I know Karl didn’t get a huge part but I thought they may try to show him off. Could be holding stuff back 😀

I hope it takes elements from both films, but more from the first 😀

So glad to see Starbuck back on screen, I’m keeping my fingers crossed with this one. I have a bit of a bad feeling about it, but we’ll see. Honestly, I know I saw it when I was pretty young but I seem to be one of the few people who liked the increase of scope in Chronicles of Riddick. Granted, the acting is pretty terrible and there are some frustrating plot decisions but all in all I liked the feel of it. That being said, Pitch Black is still by far the better film as you said

Chronicles had some interesting ideas but was flawed, Loved the first 😀

Hope Starbuck does really well and the film takes a stronger note from the first film but i’d like to see a little Chronicles too 😀
