Machete Kills (Trailer #1) Review

What was that?! Explosive nothing is all I can really describe it as, weak trailer. What happened to the hysterical Grindhouse trailer that made the first one so famous? (Here) Don’t know where to begin so I’ll just pick a complaint at random. There are too many guest stars, the characters are going to be watered down to make room for them all and it will not work, also half of them can’t act and aren’t even actors. Next up we have a narrator with such a strong Mexican accent I thought he was speaking Spanish until I recognized an English word and couldn’t believe it, especially in an international trailer because am pretty good with accents and this threw me way off. Lastly this trailer was basically a flash card presentation to show all its stars and its lost most of the…not charm but rough and cheap feel from the 80’s to the films production. It looks like it has been crushed by its own success.

My Score: D

Release date: 13th September 2013

Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federal agent Machete, who is recruited by the President of the United States (Charlie Sheen) for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer (Mel Gibson) who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet.

Top 4 Scenes

4. It’s the President

It’s stupid, its non-sense and its crazy but it’s pretty funny and it started the trailer well, but sadly it doesn’t end that way.

3. Throwing Knives in a Kebab Shop

Just made me laugh and reminded me of the first film, also I am hoping ‘Throwing Knives in a Kebab Shop’ takes over from throwing stones in a glass house.

2. Crazy Mel Gibson

Is this the best film or role for him to be playing, a man who has on many occasions been considered out of his mind! Am sure it will be funny and hopefully he goes off his nut.

1. Gun Toting President

That’s what we want in our leaders, crazy and unhinged with access to weapons. I think Charlie sheen or should I say Carlos Estevez will be pretty good in this role.

New Poster

Well that’s my views. Now what do you think about this newest trailer?

This is the Spanish trailer, haha. There is a full English Machete Kills trailer also available. Next time look for the right trailer before bashing through with your lazy review for us the readers.

    • Tim The Film Guy says :

Okay well this is actually in English and an international trailer. If it was meant for Spanish speaking countries only then it would be a Spanish trailer. And even if it was Spanish it still sucks!

  2. theipc says :

This seems like it’s going to suck. The first one was so fun in it’s innocence and charm – this looks like it’s going to be the “death of the indie band who got popular and lost everything that made them so”….

  3. The Focused Filmographer says :

haha. i tend to agree with you on this one Tim. So much screams that it will be so much worse than the first one. I thought there were too many people in it as well.

Gibson and Gaga and Sofia and Sheen…oh boy!

  4. sanclementejedi says :

I am going to be there opening night. If there is one thing Rodriguez does well it is hot chicks with guns and grind house style films.

I didn’t know that was a kebab, until you pointed it out haha. I’m not that interested in this movie but the two things that made me chuckle is Charlie Sheen as president and Sofia V. at the end.

  6. Last Road Reviews says :

Love Robert Rodriguez. One of my film idols. A screenplay I wrote I sort remade the bar scene in Desperado. It was meant to be a direct homage. But honestly liked, but didn’t love Machete. So not really looking forward to the sequel.

  7. lukebbtt says :

Sorry, I disagree here. Charlie Sheen as the president sounds like the best idea in the world haha!

  8. Brian @ Hard Ticket to Home Video says :

Yeah something seems a little off here, not as grindhouse-y as it should be. May go see it drunk.

  9. Zoë says :

    I can’t even… just no.

  10. Chris says :

Not sure I’m gonna bother with this one. The first movie was pretty bad, and this trailer does nothing to make me think it won’t be otherwise.

  11. ruth says :

Sorry Tim, I won’t go see this even if you paid me, ahah. Danny Trejo is one scary dude!!
