Box Office Predictions (16-18th Aug) Results
Kick-Ass 2, Jobs, The Butler, Paranoia…four wide releases and The Butler did it! Terrible joke I know but that’s me. The Butler really won this weekend, Kick-Ass 2 did not win and well Jobs and Paranoia BOMBED!!! Go watch some movies!
Returning Films
Can’t forget about are returning films as well. Elysium didn’t do great, again. In its second weekend it has dropped 55% to a weekend total of $13M. We’re the Millers did well and only dropped 33% to hold onto 2nd place with $17.7M. Planes keeps making money.

New Films
Kick-Ass 2
Analysis:
Saw the film, not as good as the first but okay. The film couldn’t even match its predecessors which didn’t do great in and of itself. Clearly last slot placing of the summer doesn’t do film any good or nobody was interested. This came in at $14M.

Jobs
Analysis:
MWAHAHAHAHA, called it and I was right. Didn’t even make my low expectation and came in at $6.5M.

Well that’s my views. Now what do you think about this weekend and its new releases?
The most bizarre thing to me is that ‘Jobs’ movie. It’s like they were trying to do a ‘Social Network’-type movie about a modern day tech genius, but NOBODY seemed to have heard of it. I didn’t even know that it was coming out until like 3 days before it debuted at the box office!

I saw Kick-Ass 2 and thought it was great, everyone now believes that the film sucks because its being beaten in the box office by a lesser known (non-superhero film). I think that’s unfair. I believe Kick-Ass 2 hasn’t quite had the same amount of advertising as some of the other BIG blockbusters of this year, but I think the main issue is that it was released in August. August is never really that good of a time for films, I believe that the key point in time for summer films is May-July and I think this film could have easily shown up in July and worked better.

It was good but not as good as the first film, and it is a niche film genre so its not all that shocking it made so little, sad as it is 😦

I saw Kick-Ass 2 as well and I liked it… I definitely liked the original better but I did like it. Stayed close to the comic. I didn’t really anticipate ‘jOBS’ doing well either… I haven’t seen it but the previews seemed a bit misleading compared to how he was portrayed in his biography (although I’ll admit I was unable to finish it due to total boredom). I haven’t heard much about it though review wise. PS. I’m bummed about Elysium. I really was looking forward to seeing it (haven’t yet) but I am not hearing great things.
