RoboCop (Trailer #1) Review

Holiday = Late Review.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Sorry it’s just haha oh my. Normally you would see me angry when they remake a classic science fiction film with this darker zero fun seriousness all modern takes do like Total Recall last year. But with this trailer I just can’t stop laughing, it looks bad but really funny bad so I’ll be watching this plane crash. If this trailer is a true representation of the film then we are going to have a lot of fun in February. Changing this review up as well, going to have a What I liked and What I didn’t like Section instead of Top Scenes. Enjoy the review and please tell me your initial reactions to this new trailer.

My Score: B-

Release date: 7th February 2014

In “RoboCop,” the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

What I liked!

#5. Gary Oldman: Scientist

I like it because Coleman does seem to be playing more mellowed roles and whilst I miss the more off the wall characters of Zorg from Fifth Element Gary Oldman is Always a good watch and I want to see him in this.

Does he dis people in wheelchairs as well? So apparently being in a wheelchair is worse than being some inhuman cyborg enslaved to a multinational conglomerate? Haha wow this film has drawn an interesting line in the sand.

#4. What Did You Do To Me?!

Haha sorry, the eyes get me every time! Kill Oldman, he has mangled your body into some kick ass robot horrible cyborg. I do hope that in the new film we get a little more human and I think we will because otherwise it would be a pointless remake.

#3. Intimate Story

From the look of the film I am guessing we will get a more intimate side story between Robo’s family and his corporate programming. Which when you think about it is really symbolic of separating work and home, especially in the age of smart phones communication where ever in the world you go. How would you feel if your daddy became a cyborg?

#2. Loving The Leg Gun!

YES! They kept the leg gun and I am happy about it. You better shoot everyone boy, rapid fire those criminals. Not that I will be able to see anything blood soaked with the damn PG-13! I want to see limbs blown apart dammit!

#1. “Dead Or Alive Your Coming With Me”

Epic action walk away with massive explosion in background. Ha ha! High levels of cheese, I like it. Love the line as well with the voice modulator at work, takes me back in a nice way. I may have mixed feelings but I still want to see this and the action looks pretty good, hope it’s not trailer lies.

What I Didn’t Like!

#4. His Death!

The first casualty in the PG-13 battle ground is the epic death scene of our RoboCop. In the first film we were subjected to one of the most brutal death scenes ever shown on screen (Thanks Paul Verhoeven) but here we are getting this watered down bullshit with no impact at all, and it’s a massive spoiler!

#3. “Let’s Go With Black”

Why? Is it more slimming? No it’s because black is a more in style colour and they thought screw it we’ll just rip off Batman because they make money and people are obviously going to see them because of the suit. Screw you Hollywood be more original dammit!

#2. The Robo Cycle

Are you kidding me!? Batpod! I miss the cool car from the original; you can’t ram things with a bike or shield innocents from bullets. So inconsiderate to the people, who will think of the children!?

#1. Dodgy CGI

This film has been in production for something like 5 years and they couldn’t have consistent CGI, some of it looks great but I noticed quite a few scene like this one that looks weak. I mean look at that scene it’s awful!

New Poster

Well that’s my views. Now what do you think about this newest trailer?

I wasn’t sure on this remake (as with all the remakes that have been going on recently) but then I saw the trailer and its better than I expected. I really enjoyed the Total Recall remake so this could surprise too.

  2. sanclementejedi says :

I got a feeling that this is gonna blow chunks.

#4. What Did You Do To Me?!

Ha ha, this picture made me laugh. Somehow I missed the “crazy eyes” when I watched the trailer, but your picture made me giggle. 😉

  4. atothewr says :

Your move: Not going to the theater, that’s my move. Looks awful. Nice write up.

  5. theipc says :

    This looks absolutely terrible….

  6. Hypersonic55 says :

Dude all the points you made about what you didn’t like were so spot on! The car explosion was so cheap and so less dramatic and I’m glad that you could see the same dodgy CGI that I could. This film looks better than I expected, but I’m still so weary of it. Part of me hope it fails just to show that this remakes/reboots are unnecessary.

    • Tim The Film Guy says :

I really hope its good because, whilst I enjoy a good remake bashing I’d prefer not to have a another February like this years. 6 consecutive terrible films 😦

Glad you agree with my points, what do you think of the new format?

  7. ruth says :

I don’t like the fact that he seems to have most of his humanity intact, whilst in the original he’s pretty much a machine that slowly discovers his humanity. Plus that death is pretty lame too.

“Dead Or Alive Your Coming With Me” Seems like a rip-off from the “Come with me if you want to live” line from Terminator, unless that’s also in the original? I can’t remember.

  8. williamjepma says :

If anything the trailer made me want to watch the original for the first time. This remake looks pretty by-the-numbers to me though, might check it out, maybe.

  9. Brian @ Hard Ticket to Home Video says :

I thought this looked like garbage, pretty much exactly how I felt about the Total Recall remake. He just doesn’t seem like he’s mostly robot at all, he just seems like a guy in a suit. Really no different than Iron Man but can’t do any of the cool stuff that Iron Man does.

  10. kierontownend says :

It looks OK but doesn’t ever look superb, I want this film to work though and I’m willing to give it a chance, just maybe with some slightly lowered expectations.

  11. cevans1982 says :

I thought it looked quite good, not so sure about the flip up visor but the casting alone could make this a worthy remake. The script must be decent if the likes of Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson signed up. Er, then again Gary Oldman was in Lost in Space…uh oh.

  12. The Focused Filmographer says :

Yep, Tim. I disliked everything you listed as well. All of those points annoyed me, especially the “death” scene.

I got excited when I saw the leg gun though too.

Great format. I love it. Nice job man. We will have fun writing reviews in February

    • Tim The Film Guy says :

Oh thanks, glad you liked the new format 😀

February is such a wierd date for a film like this, I better be extremely pleased or laugh my ass off at how bad it is because if I see another ehh film I’ll go insane!

  13. sidekickreviews says :

I’m not feeling the black armor. Sam Jackson’s hair piece should get it’s own trailer lol. I think I’ll rewatch the original before this comes out. Or only the original.

  14. ReasonableCritic says :

I have been a devoted fan of the original all my life, and yet I will be seeing this remake for three reasons: Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Jackie Earl Haley. The filmmakers were smart to assemble the cast they did; they’ve officially hooked me, which was no small task.

  15. lukebbtt says :

Good review. I am willing to give this one a chance. Michael Keaton looked quite good.

  16. ckckred says :

I agree, the trailer looks bad. I know they’re going to tame down the violence for a PG-13 rating.
