Fall TV 2013 Part 3 (Comedies) Review

It’s simple I watch a lot TV and movies and well anything on a screen. So summer ending is a blow, big blockbusters gone (sad). But TV shows are coming back (Yay) and because it is fall we get a bunch of new ones for me to judge and ridicule Mwahahaha! This week I am looking at the comedy entries, some new, some old. The way I am reviewing the shows is based off the shows first three episodes because that’s how long I watch a show before I decide to keep watching a new show or drop it like led brick. Next week I will review the stragglers of the fall season. So here come my views, if you think there is a show I am not watching that I should please bring it up because I am always looking for suggestions.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 9) Ep 1-3

I have never been disappointed by this show and apparently I never will. The first episode was so unbelievably cruel and a perfect example of what makes this show so great. The show consists of terrible people as main characters doing most likely terrible things, and no subject is off limits and if you don’t believe me look at some of the episode titles. If you want something really original and different in a comedy then please check this show out.

Bobs Burgers (Season 4) Ep 1-3

Bob-s-Burgers-season4

If you miss Archer in anyway then this is as close as you can get, with the same voice actor anyway. Crazy funny or quirky entertainment it’s always a fun watch. One of the best animated shows to come out recently and since I have pretty much given up on Family Guy and American Dad and Archer isn’t out for a while it does nicely. The camping trip is my favourite so far this season.

New Girl (Season 3) Ep 1-3

New-Girl-season3

That damn title threw me for 2 years! I had no idea that this show was not meant for girls only and it is so damn funny. Jake Johnson and Max Greenfield play two of the most crazy, neurotic and funny characters on TV. I am really enjoying this season as well and the first episode is just how the last season left it and I am still laughing at the argument over being colour blind. If you have been avoiding this show for any misconceptions, don’t it’s really good and deserves a chance.

The Big Bang Theory (Season 7) Ep 1-3

The-Big-Bang-Theory-season7

It’s a ridiculous show but it’s still very funny and Sheldon is still stealing the show with ease. The first episode is great but later it gets a little laxed and then it goes back to really funny again. If you like it then keep watching it but if you don’t then nothing has changed. Shouldn’t disappoint but it’s far from my favourite comedy on at the moment.

Modern Family (Season 5) Ep 1-3

Modern-Family-Season5

This show is starting to slip in originality but is still funny and as long as the show still has Ed O’Neill and Ty Burrell I’ll be watching. There are few other comedy shows though that I would watch with my family and I am assuming that is why it gets so many viewers. Still liking the mockumentary comedies though.

Give It A Shot!

South Park (Season 17) Ep 1-3

South-park-season17

Watching the Shitter episode is worth it alone, please check it out. Haha Alec Baldwin. Every episode may not be a winner but when they are its pure gold. Only people who will watch this season are people who already watch it so I don’t really need to convince anyone.

Parks & Recreation (Season 6) Ep 1-3

Parks-&-Recreation-season6

Love this series, it has so many brilliant characters and I could point at a picture of any of the cast and think of scene that made me roll on the floor laughing. The show has always held on by a thread and that’s what has made it such fun to watch and it attracts such talent. The first episode in London was brilliant and Andy Dwyer talking with an idiot Lord was fantastic.

The Crazy Ones (Season 1) Ep 1-3

The-Crazy-Ones-season1

Forgot Robin Williams was in this and nearly didn’t watch it, then I remember and I am so happy I did because it’s now one of my favourite new comedy shows. It’s not just Robin Williams though and that’s why I like it, just him being insane would get tired but the whole cast is pretty great and work together really well. I think Sarah Michelle Gellar playing as Robin Williams’s straight man works pretty well and without it I think we would just see him off the chain and bonkers, think Genie without Aladdin. The outtakes after each episode are some of my favourite parts.

Mom (Season 1) Ep 1-3

Mom-season1

Cannot stand this show, nearly didn’t make it to three episodes. The characters and the situation do not interest me in the slightest and well it’s just not funny. Maybe it gets better I just don’t care after the first few.

Do Not Watch!

Trailer

Dads (Season 1) Ep 1-3

Dads-season1

The first episode was just uncomfortable and I was really disappointed from the cast who I really like from other things, and I was starting to think parent comedies where cursed this season. However it started to grow on me and the characters are starting to win me over be it slowly. The episode with them getting a physical though was insanely funny, really turned round over a few episodes and it proves my three episode theory quite well. Just don’t judge it solely on its first few steps.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Season 1) Ep 1-3

Brooklyn-Nine-Nine-season1

This was a very pleasant surprise and I am actually really enjoying this new entry. Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher work together really well and so far I have very few complaints. I love how it’s a comedy about cops because it’s been a while really since a good cop comedy and there is so much potential. Each new case can bring untold hilarity to a situation. If there is any new comedy show to check out this fall make sure it’s this one, and for UK readers I think its coming out here on E4 pretty soon.

I am so glad to hear that It’s Always Sunny is starting off another season strong. I’m just getting through season 8 myself. I just watched “The Gang Dines Out” and I thought I was going to die when Dennis made that speech. “And I licked her asshole a little bit. It was pretty good. It was alright. It wasn’t great.”

wow!! you really watch a lot!
I struggle trying to finish big bang theory…one season is enough for me. I am to used to British comedy now and somehow American comedy feels dry now. (Before I found the Brits, I am used to – and still am – with Japanese comedy)

I only saw the first episode of the new season of New Girl! Its totally awesome! 🙂 As for the rest here, I don’t or haven’t seen much of. I am extremely interested in The Crazy Ones. I LOVE Robin Williams 🙂

Hmm, I don’t follow much comedies. I do watch The Goldbergs mainly because it’s on right after S.H.I.E.L.D. over here and I think it’s quite funny. Of your list, I’d be most interested in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I’m a fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar but I never found Robin Williams that funny except as Mrs. Doubtfire.

I haven’t got time to watch any TV show regularly, I am looking forward to Almost Human though. I did watch a couple of Park & Recreations episodes, LOVE Nick Offerman!

I posted that comment and immediately thought “uh oh, that definitely won’t be interpreted in the way I meant it.” I meant that your excessive exposure to media means that I am in turn watching a ridiculous amount of media on your recommendation, in addition to your commentary. Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving it, but it does mean that I now spend more time staring at screen than at actual human people. Love the blog, man, keep it up.

Haha, when I first read that I thought you were the “Authority”, but then I thought you were a psychiatrist trying to help my addiction.

But then I remembered this is the internet and text can be interpreted many different ways 😀

Glad you liked the post, got any favourites at the minute?

Tim, I’m worried about your broadcast media consumption. I’m also concerned by how much of it I am reading about.
