What Movie Genre Do You Avoid The Most?

I don’t normal ask questions but when looking up some new films recently I did something I think most of us do. I skipped some films based purely on the Genres, I know its wrong and that every genre of film has brilliant material to offer but I still avoid some. So I ask the question what genre of film do avoid the most? Not which do you hate but which do see and instinctively say “nah i’ll pass”. Mine is after the break.

Genre Films

For me its two genres and their not exactly justifiable.Β Biographical films, or biopics. And anything that is purely dramatic. Am talking 2 hours of pure depressing material droning on and on. I’d rather watch paint dry. But now I want to know your answers so sign off in the comments.

Rom-coms. Yawn. Modern comedies as well, really. Watched ‘Paul’ the other night; didn’t laugh at all… and I like Pegg & Frost.

Not keen on costume dramas either. I’m sure there’s one or two I might’ve liked though. Just can’t remember them…

Disappointed you don’t like old films. Don’t venture much before the 70’s? Heathen.

Haha Rom-Coms won this posts comment section with a landslide!

Not a fan of costume dramas myself. Haha sorry I disappoint you but unless it has universal praise then I tend to avoid films from before the 70’s, still watched Ben-Hur and the like πŸ˜€

I tend to avoid westerns like the plague, I don’t even like Back to the Future 3.

I dont hate them but I wouldnt buy or see to many of them and that is Westerns or Medival like fantasy ones. Lord of The Rings for example is a well made movie, but I do get really bored when watching them. Which will explain why I have not seen Game of Thrones yet

I generally avoid war movies. I don’t need that much reality in my movies. I also don’t really like Westerns, nor really stupid comedies. Two hours of fart jokes isn’t my cup of tea. Gangster stuff I dislike as well. Scarface and others like it, nah. I just find them incredibly boring.

Raunchy comedies. I’ve never found vulgarity to be funny so these bore me to tears. For me it’s an overused crutch for a lack of creativity. Unfortunately it’s the going thing in Hollywood these days and we get a ton of them each year.

Rom-coms and Romance for me. Sometimes I don’t mind a bit of love stuff, but I don’t like it to be the complete focus of a film. I would find that really boring. I like pretty much all other genres, though, having said that, I do need to be in a certain humour to enjoy and appreciate the heavier dramas.

I’m normally down for anything movie-related, but I guess pure period pieces don’t immediately jump out at me.

gotta be rom coms (or downer dramas), though some are ok, but usually I try to placate the wifey whenever I do watch one.

Romance (excluding rom-com because I can still enjoy the comedy side of it)

Hmm interesting. Normally its specifically rom coms but you can like the other half of the hybrid. I’ll agree with just romance films because I find when you focus purely on romance that it becomes extremely unrealistic or incredibly boring πŸ˜€

Romances, I suppose. Although I have to admit to having enjoyed a few of the Rom-Coms I’ve seen.

I honestly can’t take sad dramas anymore. I use to be able to watch them, but
they are too depressing now. I avoid them often – anything dealing with life and death that handles it seriously. I’m out.

Easy question this time Tim. For me it’d be horror and slasher flicks. I just don’t care for demonic themes and blood + gore. I don’t mind psychological horror or something like Sixth Sense but I don’t go out of my way to seek those out.

Great question! The genre I avoid the most is probably horror. I like movies that are suspenseful but I can’t handle super scary stuff. I’m a wimp when it comes to that. πŸ˜‰

Movies with spies or espionage and Medieval-themed fantasy movies like Lord of the Rings generally bore the Hell out of me. But there are always exceptions.
