Wolf Children (2013) & The Garden of Words (2013) Mini Review

This week am going to start writing mini reviews for indie/drama films because one I don’t have all the time in the world to write my normal 1000+ word reviews and two because I tend to struggle writing reviews for indie films. That being said I probably could go on a while about these two because they are two excellent animated films from Japan. I know most of my readers probably don’t see all that many anime films or anything foreign or subtitled. So with that in mind I have picked two that are in English language (Excellent Dubs).

I’ll go into much more detail below but please give them a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Review

Guardians of the Galaxy might be my favourite film of the year, seen it three times. Marvel has had a brilliant year with creating new genres within the comic book genre. Easily the funniest superhero film ever made but not in a really cheesy way like Thor 2, it was genuinely funny, it was a James Gunn film through and through. The visuals are great, the split between practical effects and CGI are really well done, and the sheer amount of aliens created visually in the film brings you back to star wars. Then we have the cast who are a perfect group for this action adventure film in space, you get them, you’re with them. Well done James knew you could do it.

I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

Drax: “Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are excellent and I would catch it.”

Summer Box Office 2014 Results

Am Back! And you didn’t even know I left. Sorry for being away from the blog for a while and I may have also neglected some of the blogs I follow. Sorry about that. However I just realised I forgot to review Guardians of the Galaxy and as a result also haven’t read anyone’s reviews. However they are all bookmarked so when my review is out expect some comments.

So to this post, who won the box office this summer, the time of the blockbuster! Some upsets, some shockers and some we easily predicted. Read the rest of the post after the break and leave me a comment.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) Review

Just saw Apes last night and yes I know it’s late but wow was this film worth the wait. Never thought Apes of horses would be my favourite film of the year but that’s where we are, got to love the movies! The acting is solid, the script plays with the plot brilliantly, you like and route for the characters both ape and human, the action is fast paced and visuals are unbelievable, those apes are 100% CGI. What really sets this film apart from the majority of films is the unrelentingly serious nature they apply to the material. The story explores so many aspects to human nature that its just fascinating to think about. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

The Raid 2: Berandal (2014) Review

Why didn’t I see this film sooner! The Raid 2 is just excellent, not only a great action martial arts film but a really well made gangster movie. The story was really clever and expanded a lot from the first film, we go right into the underground of the city and into the two crime families who run it. The visuals and choreography are masterful! We have car chases, great martial arts battles, big gun fights and all for under $5M. Gareth Evans who is a Brit or Welsh to be more specific. I did not see that coming, regardless he did an excellent job and I hope he gets to do a third, or just a lot more films. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

Most Anticipated Horror Films Of Summer 2014

This is my list of the most anticipated horror films released or to be released in the summer of 2014. This one may come a bit late because it is already June by now. However most on the list may be difficult to watch at first and so this list could still be used to advice you on what good horror films are coming out. I will warn you that I have come to hate haunted house films so don’t expect any on this list. Oh and horror films have very sporadic release dates so I will just be sticking to US release dates.

Update on the voting posts. I have finished the first two ‘The Good Points To Films I Hate’ and ‘A Comic Nerdy Opinion Post’ this is obviously done as well and the next two ‘A New Top Ten List’ and ‘Some Kind of Anime Post’ will be finished over the next two weeks.

22 Jump Street (2014) Review

It’s really funny, easily on par with the first and the cast work perfectly with each other. It’s hard to pin point why these two films just work so well but this comedy sequel works because it is so ridiculously self-aware, there near a million references to the fact that this is a sequel. The visuals in this are great; all the side characters are on top form. And the film just has so many laugh out loud moments that you need to probably see a few times to get them all. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, if you have seen the film then just read because there are no spoilers in my comedy reviews.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014) Review (Or as I prefer ‘All You Need Is Kill’)

Edge of Tomorrow is believe it or not an original, funny and great science fiction film. The acting is solid, the script plays with the plot brilliantly, you like and route for the characters, the action is fast paced and visuals are almost flawless. Wasn’t expecting this to be one of my favourite films of the year but so far it’s up there. Don’t trust the trailers or that new terrible title, just go out and see the film it is really good. If you ever thought what would a hybrid film made from Groundhog Day and Aliens be like? And thought yeah I’d watch that then this is for you. It’s even got Bill Paxon. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

X-Men: Casting Successes and Failures – Tim The Film Guy

To avoid having the world’s longest post I will be limiting the casting to the first X-Men film. So you will have to submit a request for my thoughts on Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut (haha awful). First I will talk good cast then bad and explain why they were good and why they were bad from a comic book point of view. Some may disagree and I am sure I will be arguing with some in the comments but just shut up, like the post, share, comment and visit Zoë’s other X-Men posts. This should be fun.

Mini Trailer Reviews

I have missed a few trailers so I am going to just put them all into one mini review post. Friday is for my first poll feature post: Good Points To Films I hate. I have three trailers which I quite liked and I hope you feel the same, however if you disagree don’t be shy and tell me in the comments. Enjoy the reviews and please tell me your initial reactions to these new trailers, more so if you disagree.
