The Russo brothers might be my favourite superhero directors. This film is easily one of marvels best and it did this by building on what the franchise has forged so far. It pitted Iron Man’s fear, anger and guilt against Captain America’s fight the good fight spirit and the ensuing drama was spectacular to watch. They really packed all the emotions into this one but it never felt stuffed or long winded and that is damn impressive given how much actually happens in this film.
“I’m saying there may be a causality. Our very strength invites challenge, challenge incites conflict, and conflict… breeds catastrophe.”
Deadpool was done right. Like straight from the comics done right, nicely done guys. It’s ridiculously funny throughout with a great cast and characters to compliment the Merc with a mouth. The dialogue was equal parts hilarious, filled with pop culture and filthy, just how I like it. Even the action and visuals were pretty great considering the budget; they really worked within their means and it paid off.
“You even look in her direction, and I’ll show you that I’ve got some hard spots… that came out wrong… or did it?”
Genuinely liked this more than I’d thought I would. Lot of action, great visuals and Dwayne was on point leading this film, come a long way since Scorpion King. The film had endless clichés but it didn’t enrage me as much as it normally does, my reasoning will be explained later. It has been a while since I’ve seen a good disaster film and this was good. I’ll go into more detail below but give it a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.
“That’s not the first time I landed on second base.” – HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Balls to the wall high octane edge of your seat relentless action death racing in a post-apocalyptic waste land. Well done George Miller. Not sure how you achieved this glorious level of action at 70 years of age or after directing three cheesy kids films. Glad you did though because this might be my favourite action film for at least 5 years. If it was done in this film it was done with perfection. “As the world fell, each of us in our own way was broken. It was hard to know who was more crazy. Me… or everyone else.”
The first half of this film is great but the second half really lets it down. What I am struggling with is whether it is that Age of Ultron is a good but flawed film or that in comparison to Marvels other recent films (Cap 2, Guardians) it just doesn’t match their quality. Ultron was a good villain, if an underused one. The avengers where handled well for the most part, hawk eye was especially well done. “I was designed to save the world. People would look to the sky and see… hope. I think I’ll take that first.”
I was extremely critical of Blomkampf after Elysium, and no less so in preparation for this film. However I actually really liked it. He has redeemed himself in part to me anyway. Chappie has a message or two that really work. It’s not about the danger of AI, it’s about how dangerous humanity can be when faced with change. Or how innocence can be corrupted? Its got like five messages floating round. Just pick one and go with it.

I am trying something new. This one will be a rough draft, need criticism. Do tell me if it is crap or makes no sense.
This will be an end of the week wrap up of what has happened in the geeky world of movies. Decided to do this about an hour before I wrote it so am just going off memory. Fill in the gaps in the comments, I know I missed something.
Also I’ll include some movie features I liked from the blogosphere. I follow a lot of nerds!
