The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) Mini Review

This was fun, I really like watching Wes Anderson films because they take you to another world. He does that with all his films. The Grand Budapest Hotel should be out on DVD and VOD at the moment, it’s a fantastically quirky story about the hotels devoted concierge and his young apprentice lobby boy. The film is really fun and the all-star cast is stellar especially Ralph Fiennes, well done that man.

I’ll go into more detail below but give it a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.

Wer (2014) Mini Review

Here comes another mini review, this time an indie horror film is in my target, also related to werewolves. The film is currently out on VOD, it’s a kind of found footage horror film. But it does have a lot of none found footage scenes. On a none review topic boy does that werewolf guy look like Sébastien Chabal or as he’s nicknamed ‘The Cave Man’ in French Rugby.

I’ll go into much more detail below but give it a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.

Wolf Children (2013) & The Garden of Words (2013) Mini Review

This week am going to start writing mini reviews for indie/drama films because one I don’t have all the time in the world to write my normal 1000+ word reviews and two because I tend to struggle writing reviews for indie films. That being said I probably could go on a while about these two because they are two excellent animated films from Japan. I know most of my readers probably don’t see all that many anime films or anything foreign or subtitled. So with that in mind I have picked two that are in English language (Excellent Dubs).

I’ll go into much more detail below but please give them a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.

Game of Thrones – Season 4 (Trailer #2) Review

BRING ON APRIL! Game of Thrones will coming real soon and this latest trailer was so good that I felt compelled to review it. I have always considered Game of Thrones to be a really long movie each season so it’s a good place to start doing TV trailer reviews. The new season looks great and having read the books I know where it’s going so trust me it looks very promising. I won’t spoil anything but I may mention which new characters to look out for. Enjoy the review and please tell me your initial reactions to this new trailer, more so if you disagree.

Open Grave (2013) Review

Open Grave is a compete mystery. The whole way through this film I had my brain on override to figure what the hell was going on, normally in horror films especially I get what’s happening and I have a good guess how it will end. This though, no idea until it revealed what was happening at the end. So to summarise it’s a horror film with a lot suspense and clues so small/scattered that it will keep you guessing until the end. Really hard to review this without spoilers so preper for a lot of them. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

You’re Next (2013) Review

You’re Next proves that starting strong means nothing, it’s entirely how you end and boy does this end strong. This film is probably my favourite horror film of 2013 and I only saw it right near the end which sad but really fun. The film has a lot of energy and when it gets going it doesn’t stop until the end, lots of interesting kills, good thrilling music and the camera work did manage to get at time with a jump here and there. Also if you are a fan of strong female leads then you will love this film because Erin played by Shami Vinson kicks all kind of ass. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

“I stuck a blender in his head and killed him.” Freakin love that line.

The Kings of Summer (2013) Review

Coming of age films are relatively rare but they’re as good as they are rare. Something about weird kids running away to build a house in a forest screams funny quirky indie film, that’s exactly what this is and it doesn’t disappoint. The Kings of Summer is a great and quirky coming-of-age indie movie full of charm and strong performances. Nick Robinson and Nick Offerman play a great father and son duo and hit big laughs and deep feels multiple times. The film is very funny but also has real drama to its story and the actors involved will surprise you in their talent. Equal parts comedy and drama it’s a really good ride, I hope you all get a chance to see it. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

Safety Not Guaranteed (2012) Review

A lot of people have recommended this to me and I just watched it without any knowledge of the film, hadn’t even seen a trailer. The film is weird and I really liked it, it’s something I can imagine seeing again really soon. The story is great in how it studies going back in time to resolve issues in our past, because who doesn’t regret some decisions. Great performances and chemistry from the cast and a perfect choice in picking Aubrey Plaza she’s perfect for this part and I hope she gets more roles in the future. The film has funny and smart dialogue with some real laughs and wonderfully diverse characters which are really fleshed out. The Sci-Fi aspects are quite fun as well as you get this toss around of is he crazy or is he actually building a working time machine and you just don’t know until the end.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012) Review

Mental disabilities can be a tricky business in films, especially one trying to meld comedy with drama. So it really is an accomplishment when I say this film pulls it off with both style and talent. The script is sharp and funny but also respects the concept and with a brilliant cast doing some of the best work I have seen from them it really excels in all areas. Luckily for the people out there like me the dancing was as minimal as it could have been and didn’t really impact the story until the end (Yes!). I hate rom-coms and I am surprised somewhat gobsmacked that this film is actually really good. The direction was stellar between the cast and David O. Russell with a family dynamic revolving around anger problems we get some fantastic scenes of a family trying to cope and the common problems anger can cause families whilst still being funny and touching at the same time.

Pat Sr.: “I’m going to come over and break that camera over your head, and come back and interview you about what it’s like to have that camera broken over your head”

Indiana Jones Trilogy Review

This trilogy review was picked by my followers and I would like to thank you for picking a good set of films yet again. Not too surprising that this trilogy won and let’s face it who doesn’t love Indiana Jones, it was easily one of the best trilogies ever made (TRILOGY!). I am not including that film that shall not be named, a clue though it had a stuttering fool and aliens. All three of these films are filed with fun and adventure and I am happy to be reviewing them. “Don’t look, Marion! Keep your eyes SHUT!” This was clearly referring to the newest installment I will also be having another poll to decide what Christmas films I should review for you guessed it Christmas. Again thanks for the votes.
