The Russo brothers might be my favourite superhero directors. This film is easily one of marvels best and it did this by building on what the franchise has forged so far. It pitted Iron Man’s fear, anger and guilt against Captain America’s fight the good fight spirit and the ensuing drama was spectacular to watch. They really packed all the emotions into this one but it never felt stuffed or long winded and that is damn impressive given how much actually happens in this film.
“I’m saying there may be a causality. Our very strength invites challenge, challenge incites conflict, and conflict… breeds catastrophe.”
The first half of this film is great but the second half really lets it down. What I am struggling with is whether it is that Age of Ultron is a good but flawed film or that in comparison to Marvels other recent films (Cap 2, Guardians) it just doesn’t match their quality. Ultron was a good villain, if an underused one. The avengers where handled well for the most part, hawk eye was especially well done. I’ll go into more detail below but give it a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.
“I was designed to save the world. People would look to the sky and see… hope. I think I’ll take that first.”
Guardians of the Galaxy might be my favourite film of the year, seen it three times. Marvel has had a brilliant year with creating new genres within the comic book genre. Easily the funniest superhero film ever made but not in a really cheesy way like Thor 2, it was genuinely funny, it was a James Gunn film through and through. The visuals are great, the split between practical effects and CGI are really well done, and the sheer amount of aliens created visually in the film brings you back to star wars. Then we have the cast who are a perfect group for this action adventure film in space, you get them, you’re with them. Well done James knew you could do it.

Rocket: “His people are entirely literal. Metaphors go right over his head.”
Drax: “Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are excellent and I would catch it.”
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a very different product than Marvel is used to making and whilst it’s still a safe film for all its nice to see Marvel trying new themes, this time it was espionage. This was a really well made film and I have very few to no complaints however taking on a spy thriller means it will get compared to a higher class of films. The story takes you much deeper into SHIELD and into how it all works for better or worse. The visuals are great and apart from a bombastic finale the majority of the film relies on practical effects, and I always like a mix of the two. The new Directors (Anthony Russo & Joe Russo) have done a wonderful job of creating a sequel, blending past events naturally with the current story and just making it work. Black Widow: “Hey fellas, either one of you know where The Smithsonian is? I’m here to pick up a fossil.”
Captain: “That’s hilarious.”
Well that’s certainly something, not sure what exactly but yeah. Overall I am liking the look and feel of the characters and this world they’ve built, seems like a well-established set of worlds. I do have a problem with the structure of this trailer, the first half is a minute and a bit of character establishment which I get but really meant the content was just a teaser trailer, slightly disappointed on that front, hoping for more story structure in the next trailer. Another opinion is that past the people who are already on board for this film (me and the nerd minority) I don’t see many people being won over by this trailer; think they needed a stronger sell. I do however love that music at the end. Enjoy the review and please tell me your initial reactions to this new trailer, more so if you disagree.
“Oh am sorry. I, I didn’t know how this machine worked” You’ll get it.
And I am back! Bring on the predictions. I haven’t had too much time to do these predictions but with a massive release like Thor The Dark World I had to say what I think it will make. Glad Gravity did great as I haven’t been doing the predictions, but has done far better than I expected. Go watch some movies!
Thor: The Dark World is one of the most fun and entertaining Marvel films I have seen, from the fascinating story to the side splitting humour to the amazing visuals. This was a really well made film and I have very few to no complaints. The story takes you to so many more places than previous films and expands on the universe created. The visuals are a great improvement on the first Thor film with less plastic and more leather and metal, Thor’s universe seems real. The new Director (Alan Taylor) has done a wonderful job of creating a sequel, blending past events naturally with the current story and just making it so damn fun. The film is really an action adventure film which is what this character really needs to work on the big screen. “Some believe that before the universe, there was nothing. They’re wrong. There was darkness and it has survived.”
Wow that looks much better than the first trailer. The film looks explosive, action packed, visually gorgeous, smart and genuinely funny. I was getting quite worried about this film after the last trailer but this one makes this film a must see, and the UK gets it the 30th October. If this trailer is a true representation of the film then I like where it is going, and the new director seems to be on the ball. If the whole film is half as entertaining as this trailer then we are in for autumn treat. Enjoy the review and please tell me your initial reactions to this new trailer.
Iron Man 3 the first of this summer’s superhero films was very good but not the best. The story is strong and draws this strength from a brilliant comic arc which is one of my favourites called Extremis, it did take some liberties. The acting was great benefiting from some fantastic new additions to the cast, Pierce, Kingsley. Good dialogue but I expect something juicy to quote from, like a villain (Complaints for this are in spoiler section) or Hero. As a superhero film something was just off, still very good but some themes just didn’t work for me. The visuals are amazing and will in no way disappoint, the new extremis armour is great and you get to see a lot of interesting tech and powers.
