Sorry about the late post guys, my Dad’s in hospital and so it’s going to be a little slower around my blog. Rest assured I’ll still be reviewing Pacific Rim sometime next week. Back to the weekend’s releases and I was pretty close, in that The Lone Ranger bombed and Despicable Me 2 did great. My numbers were off by $42M over the top ten. What I didn’t expect this weekend was strong returning box office numbers, carry on reading to see what I mean. Go watch some movies and let’s look at the breakdowns.
YES!!! This is the weekend I have wanted to get into since I started doing the Box Office Predictions, get ready for an epic win and an epic fail. The two new releases, first is Despicable Me 2 an animated children’s film following a massively successful first instalment with mass family appeal and big tracking numbers, and the second release is The Lone Ranger which haha should be fun to watch (not for Disney) so how will this unbelievably bloated excuse for a blockbuster do? The returning films The Heat and White House Down won’t be bothered too much this weekend but how much lower can they go and Monsters University should take whopping drop with the release of its biggest Competition Despicable Me 2. Will I get the numbers spot on? Will your predictions beat mine? Well the only way to find out is to read this prediction post and the results on Monday and go watch some movies, now to the breakdowns.
I was writing a review for another trailer but this came out and obviously got pushed to the front of the queue. Now like everyone when this was announced I was excited, I loved the first film and a sequel sounded great but I had my doubts about a successful sequel so many years later, however this trailer has lowered my fears but there still there. Trailer looks good, it’s funny and the cast seem to remember their characters. Feels more like a long teaser but for now it will do and hope for a great film to equal its predecessor. Hope you enjoy the trailer and stills I managed to grab. Add your comments and likes at the end.
Full disclosure I loved the first one and this trailer review is going to be super biased. The trailer is hysterical and I love the way it simply tells a little of the story rather than giving away spoilers. I know what it’s about and want to see it and they did that without me even seeing the villain or anything more than a few very brief scenes. We clearly still get that weird rap music that somehow totally works in this film. Steve Carell is back to play Gru and Kristen Wiig should be great. We also get Al Pacino playing the main villain which obviously should be really fun in this type of film. Below are the newest trailer and my favourite scenes, so please comment at the end.
Were back to the top ten’s and this could be the last of 2000-2010, so let me make it a good one. Kid’s films, mainly animations which let’s face it are the best. So many films missed the cut off date, for example A Bug’s Life (1998), Tarzan (1999), The Iron Giant (1999) and Toy Story 2 (1999). Good year for kids films, but I am unwilling to change the almighty rules of the top ten. For I have spoken my gibberish! Ok so if you didn’t see the part 1 go do that and vote for favorite film from part 1, then in part 2 which you are reading now do the same, then after a while I will post the results.
